The short answer

Gleadale Appliance services repairs gas, electric and induction cooktops from Wolf, Viking and Thermador, including Wolf units in Sub-Zero kitchens, in Glendale and nearby cities. Most faults, such as failed igniters, simmer problems and control errors, are repairable. You get a diagnosis and estimate before any work begins.

When a burner clicks but won't light, or an induction zone throws an error the moment you set a pan down, dinner plans stall. Gleadale Appliance services repairs gas, electric and induction cooktops in Glendale, Burbank, Pasadena and surrounding neighborhoods, with a focus on premium built-in kitchens. We work on cooktops and rangetops from Viking, Wolf and Thermador. If your kitchen is built around Sub-Zero refrigeration, we can look at those appliances during the same visit if you ask. We are an independent repair company, not affiliated with or endorsed by any manufacturer. Our goal is a clear diagnosis and a straight answer about whether a repair makes sense for your cooktop.

Issues we fix

Most cooktop problems show up in a few predictable ways. If you notice any of these, turn the burner or zone off and schedule a look rather than working around the problem.

  • Burners that won't ignite, or click but don't light
  • Igniters that keep clicking after the flame is lit, or click with the knob off
  • Weak, yellow, lifting or uneven flames on a gas burner
  • Uneven heat or hot spots across the bottom of a pan
  • A burner that won't hold a low simmer or goes out on low settings
  • Induction zones that don't detect the pan or cycle on and off
  • Error codes or flashing indicators on the control panel
  • Touch controls that don't respond, or respond on their own
  • Electric elements that stay cold or stay on high
  • Cooling fans on induction models that run loudly or not at all
  • Cracked glass or ceramic surfaces
  • A gas smell near the cooktop. Leave the area, shut off the gas if it is safe to do so, and call your gas utility before calling us.
Technician testing the control board of a built-in refrigerator

What our technician checks on a built-in or professional-style cooktop

On a built-in or professional-style cooktop, the visible symptom is often far from the actual fault. Our technician starts by confirming the complaint with you. Then they work through the system in order instead of swapping parts on a guess.

On gas units, that means checking the igniters and spark module, the burner heads and caps for clogged ports or misalignment, the re-ignition circuit, the gas valves, and supply pressure at the regulator. On electric and induction units, it means checking the elements or induction coils, the power and control boards, the temperature sensors, the cooling fan and air path, and the incoming voltage at the junction box.

We also look at how the unit sits in the counter. We check whether it's level, whether the cutout leaves room for airflow, and whether spills have reached wiring or switches below the surface. Moisture from boil-overs is a common cause of both stuck igniters and erratic touch controls.

How Sub-Zero, Viking, Wolf and Thermador cooktops differ

Sub-Zero is best known for refrigeration, and its cooking appliances are sold under the sister Wolf name. So in kitchens built around a Sub-Zero, you will often find a Wolf cooktop or rangetop. Wolf gas models use dual-stacked sealed burners, and the upper and lower tiers can fail separately. A burner that runs fine on high but won't simmer points us to the lower tier, its ports or the valve. Wolf induction and electric models depend more on control boards and sensors.

Viking professional-style cooktops are built for heavy use. Problems there tend to trace back to igniters, spark modules, and burner parts worn by heat and cleaning. On units where grease and moisture reach the knob switches, the igniters may click continuously.

Thermador gas cooktops use a star-shaped burner, and many models have an extra-low simmer feature that cycles the flame. When simmer misbehaves, we check that system first. Thermador induction and electric models more often come down to touch controls, power boards and cooling.

These are tendencies, not rules. The diagnosis on your specific model decides the repair.

Repair or replace a high-end cooktop?

A premium cooktop is built to be serviced. Most faults can be repaired without replacing the whole unit, including igniters, valves, switches, sensors, fans and even control boards. Replacement means matching the existing cutout, the gas or electrical connection, and the countertop. That isn't always simple with stone or custom work.

Replacement starts to make sense in a few cases: the glass or ceramic top is cracked and the part is no longer available, the burner box or gas manifold is badly corroded, or several major components are failing at once. It also makes sense if you were already planning a change, such as moving from gas to induction. We'll tell you plainly which side of that line your cooktop falls on, and why.

What affects the cost of a cooktop repair

We don't quote prices before we've seen the cooktop, because the same symptom can come from very different faults. A clicking igniter might be a wet switch that only needs drying and cleaning, or it might be a failed spark module that needs replacing.

You get the diagnosis and a written estimate before any repair work begins.

  • The fault itself, and how long it takes to isolate
  • The parts needed, and whether they're in stock or must be ordered
  • Access: units set into stone counters, islands or custom cabinetry can take more time to lift or reach safely
  • Fuel type: gas valve work requires leak checks after reassembly
  • Related damage, such as spill-soaked wiring, that also needs attention

How a cooktop repair visit works

Contact us with the brand, the model number if you can find it, and what you're seeing. The model number is often on a plate under the cooktop or on the burner box. Photos of any error code help. We'll set a time window for your address in Glendale or a nearby city such as Burbank, Pasadena or La Cañada Flintridge.

At the visit, the technician confirms the symptom, tests the system and explains what failed. If you approve the estimate and the part is on hand, the repair can often be finished in the same visit. If not, we order the part and return to install and test it. Before leaving, we run every burner or zone and check any gas connections we've touched.

What to expect

How a visit goes

  1. Find the cause first

We test before we replace anything. A refrigerator that runs warm or an oven that won't hold temperature can have several possible causes. We narrow it down before recommending a repair.

  2. Explain it clearly

You'll hear what failed, why it matters, and what your options are, without jargon. If a repair doesn't make sense for your appliance, we'll tell you that too.

  3. Respect your kitchen

Built-in appliances sit inside cabinetry and finished spaces. We protect floors and panels, work carefully around them, and leave the area the way we found it.

FAQ

Common questions

My burner clicks but won't light. Is it safe to keep using the cooktop?

Turn that burner off and don't keep trying to light it, because unburned gas can build up. Other burners that light normally are usually fine to use carefully until the repair. If you smell gas, leave the area and call your gas utility first.

Do you work on cooktops in Sub-Zero kitchens?

Yes. Sub-Zero kitchens usually pair with Wolf cooking appliances, and we repair Wolf cooktops along with Viking and Thermador models. We can check Sub-Zero refrigeration during the same visit if needed.

Can you repair induction cooktops?

Yes. We diagnose induction coils, power and control boards, temperature sensors, cooling fans and touch controls. Pan detection problems and error codes are common reasons for a visit.

Will you need to remove the cooktop from my countertop?

Sometimes. Many parts can be reached from above or from the cabinet below. Some repairs require lifting the unit out of the cutout, which we do carefully to protect stone and custom cabinetry.

Should I replace my gas cooktop with induction instead of repairing it?

That's a personal choice that also depends on your electrical capacity and counter cutout. If your gas cooktop is repairable, fixing it is usually the simpler path. We'll give you the repair facts so you can weigh them against a planned change.

Are you affiliated with the cooktop manufacturers?

No. Gleadale Appliance services is an independent repair company. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by Sub-Zero, Viking, Wolf or Thermador.
